Explorer Post 2498

The youngest of the Eureka Firefighters belong to the Explorer Post. This excellent opportunity for 14-17 year olds allows participants to learn about the operations of the fire district, the equipment, and contribute time back into the community. Our explorers are actively involved with the fire district by conducting their own training once Sunday a month, participating in fire and medical classes, assisting at public relations events, and responding to emergency calls on the fire apparatus. They also have a fundraising booth at the annual Backdraft Rodeo and conduct additional fundraisers through car washes throughout the year.

At the Firefighters Association of Missouri (FFAM) Convention, held in St. Clair on April 28, 2007; the explorers from Eureka participated in the competitions. They took home three (3) third place trophies for the following competition. “Extend a Hose Line”, “Water Fight”, and “Bucket Bridge”. They competed against teams from all across the State and proudly brought home these awards. Chief Greg Brown commented how proud the entire department was of our young and upcoming firefighters, especially with this being their first year to compete.

On June 7, the Eureka Fire District Explorer Post also received an award from the Boy Scouts of America which the Explorer Post is organized under. The Post and Fire District received the “William H. Spurgeon III Award” which is special recognition for Organizations contributing to Signification Leadership in Exploring Programs. Eureka was one of only three organizations in the St. Louis region to receive this award.

Eureka Fire District is very proud of our explorer program and the outstanding job they have done and continue to do for the themselves, the District and the Community.
